I happened to come across this box frame in my recycling boxes while I was looking for something else. My friend had given it to me quite some time ago and it was rather grubby as it was in her shed.
Luckily it cleaned up rather well...so I decided to use it for my design team project over at
Rhedd's Creative Spirit for their April Challenge
The mount of the frame is plastic, so that came up really well after washing it.
I decided to go with the Haberdashery theme, so I covered the back plate in white muslin and then overlaid that with a white cotton doily.
The dressform was left natural and just sprayed with a gloss sealer..then a bow was added. The lovely wooden heart buttons were found in my button box..I found 2 and eventually found a 3rd one in a pot on my work desk..all embellishments were adhered to the doily with hot glue.
I slid the back plate back in to the frame and secured it with the tabs....the vintage pearly buttons were added to one corner and the sewing embellishments to the corner.
I rather like the finished piece and it now has pride of place on my sideboard.
If you enjoy creating using altered art, recycling ete ( no papercrafting ) then why not pop over and join in with the challenge..you can find it here at

Sooooo pretty! Using a doily as background was genius! I need to start snagging them when they show up at work, lol. x
It's always wonderful when we find unexpected art possibilities Sandie.
I love the elegance of your makeover...very classy.
The doily background is so lovely!
Love this hun. The doily is effective as is the the natural effect of the tailors dummy. So it should be on display on your sideboard - beautiful xx
