A little bit of Steampunk...

Crikey..look how close we are to Christmas...all of a sudden you realise there are only a few months until the end of the year..I am sure the older I get the quicker the time flies,lol...

This months challenge has just started today over at
  Rhedd's Creative Spirit
and design team member Sammy is hosting this months challenge, as always there is plenty to feast your eyes on in the way of projects, so I hope you will be inspired to enter the challenge

My project this month is made from items in my stash that I have saved for recycling in my artwork...

The main body is a large wooden stamp block that I covered with backing paper... ( I take all my stamps off their blocks as after time the wood warps and images don't always stamp correctly ) I love using these blocks.

I used a shallow wooden box for the centre, the type that little embellishments come in and painted it in black acrylic paint, then splodged the red and turquoise paint around the sides and front edges with a sponge.

To line the box I used card with cogs embossed on it and coloured it with distress ink. I used spray and shine to give the box a bit of shimmer.
Then I stamped this fab image of the Gibson Girl, coloured her and adhered to the inside of the box.

I die cut two pediments in grey board and glued both pieces together to make it thicker, then stained it  with distress ink and set it to one side to dry. Once dry that was treated to some spray to give it a nice shimmer before I added it to the top of the box.

All the cogs and the heart were stained with distress inks and once the heart was dry I used the spray again to give it a shimmer, then I added the copper wire and the small cog.
I selected two copper corner pieces and found a little bottle to add to the box...I shaped some wire in to a coil and rubbed it with copper gilding wax.

I added all the embellishments inside the box, the clock & bird, bottle, cogs, spring, heart and the chain and metal disc..and finished by adding the two corner pieces.
I added the wooden wings to the stamp bock before adhering the box to it as I wanted to box to stand out a bit.

From the rest of the cogs that I stained I created the wheels and I also attached a handle ( an old drawer handle ) that I used copper gilding wax on to the top of the block.
I hope this inspires you to enter the challenge, which you can find here at
