Altered Book Box

I've had this Book Box in my workshop for what seems like forever....my workshop is actually my garage and I happened to have the doors open when one of my neighbours walked by and said Hello, we ended up chatting for a while and I showed her where I crafted. My neighbour spotted the blank book box on the shelf and said her husband would love something like that...so I offered to alter it for her...
I thought this would be a good project for Altered Eclectics where I am on the design team there.

I started by painting the box in black acrylic paint..as the mdf was such good quality it took 2 coats easily and covered so well.
I searched through my stash and found some really thick backing paper and lined the inside of the lid and the box.

Because the box was for an elderly gent, I wanted to keep it simple, no frills so to speak.  Again in my stash I found some more of the thick backing papers that I could use for the cover of the box and also some contrasting paper for the edges and spine.

Once every thing was dry I went along the edges with Black Soot distress ink...I then re-added the hinges.
I was at a point where the box looked suitable, but it still needed something..so I added a metal embellishment that I had made gold using gilding wax...Finally I added the ribbon...I purposely didn't glue down the ribbon in case the gent didn't like it.
I am very pleased to say the box was well received and has been put to good use.

Do pop over and take a look at this months challenge..it's here at
